Ferndown

Psychotherapeutic

Counselling

Welcome to Ferndown Psychotherapeutic Counselling, a private and LGBT friendly practice based in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire.

At times life can be difficult and choosing to engage in counselling takes courage. I believe we all have our own lived experiences, and you are the only person who knows how that feels. I am committed to working together at your own pace to understand what is going on, to actively listen and ensure you feel heard. It can be good to speak in confidence to someone impartial, who can listen without judgement, accept, and value you for who you are.

Therapy can help you develop an understanding of what is bothering you or causing distress, even when there is not an obvious reason. Through the counselling process I will aim to help you express your feelings and explore your experiences as I walk this journey alongside you.

Whatever your aim of therapy I will work with you to facilitate the changes you wish to make.

I offer ‘talking therapy’ for either face to face or by telephone, appointments are available evenings and weekends.

What is counselling?

Counselling is a talking therapy which provides a safe, confidential space for you to talk to a trained professional about your issues and concerns. A therapeutic alliance is built up on respect and trust so thoughts, feelings and behaviours can be explored safely, and a better understanding of yourself and others developed.

How to get the most out of counselling

To get the most out of therapy, regular appointments are recommended, usually on the same day and time each week. However, these can be flexible to fit in with your availability. I offer both face to face and telephone counselling, evenings, and weekends. Sessions are 50 minutes (known as a therapeutic hour).

Why do people come for counselling?

There are a variety of reasons that people come for counselling some of these are:-

  • Bereavement, grief, and loss
  • Isolation and loneliness
  • Anxiety, depression, or stress
  • Panic attacks
  • Relationship issues

Don't feel alone

About Me

Hello,

I am Stephanie Wadie (she/her). I am a qualified integrative counsellor with a Professional Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling and am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

My integrative approach mainly focuses on psychodynamic, attachment and family systems which can help in understanding how past experiences inform the present, but I tailor session to each individual clients needs.

My personal journey into counselling was through Reiki, a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. I trained as a Reiki Master in 2016 and noticed how clients would tell me about their problems and emotional issues, I wanted to help them but didn’t know how. So, I made the decision to change that and looked into suitable counselling courses. In essence I want to help people through their difficult times and help them learn to help themselves.

I still offer a range of holistic therapy which can be booked as stand alone treatments or added as an extra to a counselling session to aid relaxation and promote wellbeing.
